According to my very thorough research, in which I clicked on the first link Google provided, a study found that in the US: "Even if the dispatcher chooses a ground ambulance to drive a patient with a medical emergency to a hospital, the study finds that 79% of patients could get a surprise bill, with an average total around $450".
