I agree with you in that the true sense of 'justice' is beyond our current understanding, and I include myself in this. Punitive justice and retributive justice are far from the ideal of justice. In the future, perhaps many, many generations from now, people will look back on the current justice system and be baffled that we sincerely thought this system was truly evocative of justice.
Even so-called restorative justice that is heavily advocated in the social circles I run in is plagued by flaws.
