Justice Ginsburg dictated a statement before her death: "My most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new president is installed."

How quaint. Sure... the president and party who trashed McCain after he died of brain cancer is going to honor your dying wish.

Watching opera together again

This is the best part about important people dying... everyone pretends to be religious for a couple days.

McConnell already said he'll fill it. Trump is going to get his justice confirmed, only question is whether it's before or after election day.

Republicans have no principles. The voters don't care about hypocrisy if it favors their side.

well, he's got a pretty good precedent to cite laid out by the chairman of the senate judiciary in 1992, who said that the president should only pick a replacement supreme court justice during an election year if he has support of the senate or chooses a moderate. The same precedent that Barack Obama refused to honor in 2016 after Scalia died- and which Republicans then blocked, since after all the senate chairman's words were not just idle partisan positioning, but also a simple truism- without the support of the senate a candidate won't go anywhere anyway. But Trump could still hold to that precedent since he has the support of the senate and could still choose a moderate if he wanted, but just the former would be enough

I suppose I should point out that precedent from 1992 was argued by senate judiciary chairman Joseph R. Biden Jr.;

So if Trump wins, her wish is for her supreme court pick to go unfilled for 4 more years?

he should nominate a moderate that'd leave the court still slightly conservative and block against Biden nominating whatever nut his handlers select

"My most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new president is installed."

so if President Trump wins re-election, RGB wanted the court to remain at 8 until 2025?

If Trump gets to seat a new justice, the new fascist Supreme Court will stop mail in vote counts in swing states this November and install Trump. This is unquestionably what is going to happen.

And then we will have our civil war finally. Are you guys excited?

If you think the fires on the west coast are pretty, wait until the whole country is rubble. Most of you will lose your jobs and homes. Enjoy.

I don't know that a standard laid out by the Senate Judiciary Chairman in 1992 to try to favor his own side is a good precedent.

Let's not pretend this has anything to do with precedent or principles. It's about power. Trump has the votes to appoint another justice so he will. There's not enough Republicans who believe in any principles to stop that.
