well, he's got a pretty good precedent to cite laid out by the chairman of the senate judiciary in 1992, who said that the president should only pick a replacement supreme court justice during an election year if he has support of the senate or chooses a moderate. The same precedent that Barack Obama refused to honor in 2016 after Scalia died- and which Republicans then blocked, since after all the senate chairman's words were not just idle partisan positioning, but also a simple truism- without the support of the senate a candidate won't go anywhere anyway. But Trump could still hold to that precedent since he has the support of the senate and could still choose a moderate if he wanted, but just the former would be enough
I suppose I should point out that precedent from 1992 was argued by senate judiciary chairman Joseph R. Biden Jr.;

Let's not pretend this has anything to do with precedent or principles. It's about power. Trump has the votes to appoint another justice so he will. There's not enough Republicans who believe in any principles to stop that.

So if Trump wins, her wish is for her supreme court pick to go unfilled for 4 more years?
Re-elected presidents still do the inauguration, amirite?
