I'm not stupid enough that I need a movie to tell me that there's an increased sexualization of girls or that there's both significant social and frankly economic pressures.

Based on the cover art alone i would grimiss throughout the movie and not in a good way.

Therefore no need to watch.

I mean i'm super outraged and i'm going to cancle my wifes parents netflix subscription.

I just watched Cuties with my girlfriend. We were expecting 2 hours of disgusting Dance Moms level pedophile content.

We were expecting 2 hours of disgusting Dance Moms level pedophile content that we could rant about and then go bash Netflix on Twitter, but instead we got a thoughtful coming of age story. Nothing wrong with this movie. If you saw "pedophile content" in it then you are probably just a pedophile and need to never look at children in any context. Or you're just a bandwagoner who didn't watch it.

Which close up on the 11 year old’s ass did you like the most?

That just sounds weird tbh.

Like Nathan said, there's other ways to say sexualizing kids is bad without showing 11 year olds in skimpy outfits.

I can sort of get the message behind it, IE: "Your kids are doing this shit daily on Tiktok and other apps and you don't give a shit, maybe you will now."

But I don't think it will succeed in getting its point accross.

100%.

sexualizing young girls with the message "you're a big girl whenever u want to be" = bad

sexualizing young girls with the message "this is bad, and dont do this to your kids" = good

its similar to rape, if u have a character that rapes with impunity, is the hero of the story, and people love him for it, thats bad. if rape is done by the bad guys and makes them irredeemable, thats good.

there are bad things and good things in the world, when shown in media its the message they send morally that is important, not their existence. i havent heard criticism that this will lead to more sexualized girls, only that its food for pedos, which is silly.

sounds like those shots made you uncomfortable just as the director wanted.

In the movie the repressive parents are the bad guys and the girl gets freedom by dancing. She isn't exposed to the sexuality until she meets another girl and she actively seeks it out and her sexually dancing isn't seen by society as a whole as good. So that analysis doesnt really hold up. It's portraying sexualizing kids as the hero.

Sneaking out of the house in her dance outfit, she pushes another member of the Cuties, Yasmine, into a lake, so that the Cuties have no choice but to allow her to dance with them. The highly suggestive dance routine shocks the audience. Suddenly thinking about her mother during the routine, Amy bursts into tears and leaves before their performance ends to join her mother.

Upon her return, she runs into her aunt who blames her for her outfit and recent attitude. Amy's mother intervenes by telling her to leave her daughter alone and then hugs her to reassure her. Amy implores her mother to allow Amy to not attend the wedding, in order to demonstrate her disapproval. Amy's mother permits her not to go, but states that she herself must go to fulfill her duty as a wife. Amy then abandons both the traditional wedding dress and her sexy dancer's outfit, and, in jeans and a t-shirt, her hair down, she goes out to play jump rope with a group of girls.

I haven't seen the film not a preview of it, so I won't comment on it.

However, I do have a friend who has owned and operated a dance school for over 20 years, with dancers ranging from 3 to 18 years old, and one of her cardinal rules she's adhered to the entire time is that in any recitals, performances, or competitions, the kids never have any revealing or "sexualized" outfits. They're always dressed modestly, specifically to prevent the hypersexualization depicted in this film.

Kids just emulate trendy stars, musicians, etc.

Didn't watch the movie but i wish these types of films would target and call out the actual culprits of why society is this way not just generalities. Did they do that? Did they talk about rap culture and how that distills down into what kids do?

Like wtf do you expect when people like Cardi B, Nicki Minaj, etc are idols for so many kids?

had the film stated after WAP came out they may have.

rap stars are a bad influence but overall i think beauty pageants, instagram bikini models, and fashion models are more to blame here. as well as pop stars like Ariana Grande and Britney Spears.

i also wrestle with a solution to giving women direction of their own fashion and showing off and how to stop children from doing the same. i would never date or especially marry a woman who was too provocative, but im fine with women doing it, and not just for pervy reasons.

but this is the fundamental issue with coming of age, kids want to try cigarettes, want to drink a beer, want to experiment sexually, want to swear, etc. animals all follow this same path, young animals learn how to be an adult by emulating adults, and its a fine line to stop this. you dont bring lion cubs on the hunt, but you teach them to hunt each other.
