plenty of countries have rich corporations and rich social programs though. my main question is - has America failed where other countries have succeeded - or is America just the wrong place to practice socialism, period?

America has failed.

We had stronger social programs in the 60's and 70's. We seriously slowed our public investment and as a result our society has gone to shit more than other places. We've basically turned out economy over to corporations with workers being the least important factor. Consumers kind of forgot they're workers too...

The social programs got cut.

Cut federal funding for mental hospitals. Mental illness and related violence explodes.

Cut food programs. Hunger skyrockets and charities can't keep up.

Cut science programs and fund new techs at a lower rate than China. Chona is now eating our place as tech capital.

WHO COULD HAVE SEEN IT COMING!!!!! everybody.... We all saw it coming and idiots said it was good.

Considering they work everywhere else that makes it a failure of america.

What part about them works? The amount of poor people doesn't change and it doesn't improve quality of life or class mobility.

The amount of poor people doesn't change, no matter how many billionaire's capital gains taxes or corporate regulations are cut. But they still need to eat. They still need to change diapers. They still need to pay rent. They still have quality of life needs. And most of them are rural whites. They rely on SNAP, TANF, Head Start, and the public health clinic. You can cut it and blame "radical left Democrats!" or prey on their fears and blame "n*ggers and Mexican immigrants and purple haired Antifa soy trannies!" and they'll believe you for a while because they're uneducated and dumb because you won't fund the schools, but eventually they'll figure it out. Eventually they'll be clamoring for another FDR. Because they know those programs work. They know they need them. And they know they're fucked when they go away.
