we need a 100% trade embargo on China from Mexico, Canada, USA, Aus, Japan and the Eu. if they want to try and make it work with Russia, africa, and asia minor go ahead.

Trump isn't some secret genius warning of us genocide by the Chinese. He's pandering to his base by creating an other. If he really wanted to bring more attention to what's happening and punish China.. well.. he's literally the fucking president. He is the most listened too man on the planet.

Except that he was right all the time when it comes to China. He said "they're ripping is off on trade" since the 80s, and they did.

The issue is simply that most people, experts included, only saw the cheapened consumer prices that Chinese manufacturing brought, and then the increased business opportunities from selling to the emerging Chinese middle class. That the Chinese were using abusive trade practices (currency manipulation, theft of intellectual property, state subsidized companies) since the beginning and were constantly chipping away at the technological advantage and the market share of Western companies is a fact that was easy to see since at least the early 2000s. Complacency and greed has allowed the monster to grow big and powerful, and now, there's no more easy way out.

Trump wanted to rein China in economically since he took office, but his efforts were denounced and decried by the Democrats, large parts of corporate America who have become dependent on cheap Chinese suppliers, large parts of the media as well as large parts of academia. "Stupid protectionist trade wars", "he's only gonna hurt his own voters in the midwest", "tariffs are so backwards, unrestricted free trade is teh futurz" etc were the prevailing sentiment. Only after China put religious minorities into concentration camps, cracked down on dissidents, cracked down on Hong Kong breaking the autonomy agreement they had signed, ramped up aggression against Taiwan and other parts of SEA, proved to be a corrupting influence on the WHO during a global pandemic (which was spawned by themselves), and a series of espionage scandals involving Han Chinese occupying various high posts in American society (e.g. professors) - only after this huge list of shit that China pulled off has the larger public come to the realization that China is indeed a hostile, systemic rival. Only after this long list of shit did people realize that China is indeed waging a new kind of Cold War, and winning. It took this huge list of proof for people to realize that Trump was right all along with his instincts on China. And many of them would still refuse to explicitly acknowledge it.

None of the information you are referencing came from Trump. We've known about it just like everybody else for decades, the real contention is how it can be solved, if it can even be solved. Trump has done dick didley to solve it, and he hasn't actually proposed any legislation or action that would solve it. He wasn't the first one to identify the problem. He's used the problem that was already recognized but without a solution to create division. Again, Trump isn't somebody with special insight. He's grabbing things others have said and used it to construct an other.
