sry for the offtopic, but wait a second: your monthly power bill is in the 250-300 dollar range? what the actual fuck?!

250-300 range is my normal monthly electric and gas bill during the winter months, usually about 200ish for cooling months and 100-150ish for the moderate months where I don't need the air or heat and just run a couple fans.

Americans use air conditioning quite a bit more than us.

200 is pretty standard around here for electric + gas.

I'm paying 40€ a month for electricity, and the water and gas bill is already included in my rent, but adds up to less than 60€ per month. *shrug*

And just for the record: Germany has unusually high energy prices due to the botched energy transformation bill from 2011.

I see, that makes sense then.

Anyway. About 15 years from now, our eco overlords will decide that this building and the fish tanks exceed your carbon apportionment, so that the "Office for Sustainability and Climate Knowledge Services (SuCKS)" will seize your house before sending you to reeducation camp. :)

I live in a small 2 story house with 3 bedrooms and a basement.

My electric bill is currently like 50$/month and my gas bill (since we're gas heated) is currently about 100$ a month. Those rates will flip in summer but likely stay consistent.

We used to have a massive gas bill but we put in a fireplace unit with a front blower and now we generally heat the house most winter months with that rather than the furnace.

idiot who owned my house before me tho put in a new gas furnace (good), electric water heater (not so good), and an electric stove (worst of all). guy had the chance to go all gas on the 3 major appliances and opted to mix it up, dunno why.

I live in a single family home roughly 2500 square feet. Live in Midwest - currently 25ish degrees outside (F).

My monthly Gas/Electric is typically about 150 - give or take a few bucks depending on how cold it is. Two people live in the house and we keep the temp pretty low - 60 when no one is home and 68 when we are.

Nest thermostat is a GREAT thing. I've had it for 2 years and it's significantly cut down on my utility It's paid for itself 4-5 times in that span.
