I think that our society has been slowly corrupted to benefit a few extremely wealthy people to the detriment of the great masses.
Why do we talk about "dream jobs" where we bust our asses to make some other person richer but hate it slightly less than the other jobs we were doing?
The way i see it is billionaires are a failure of society, money that should be circulating the economy is sitting in the cayman islands or being used to endlessly expand mega corporations to dodge paying their fair share of taxes.
Does the convenience of amazon mean jeff bezos deserves a hundred billion dollars?
Not to me.

I dont think wealth redistribution via taxation and communism are the same thing? That aside i dont care how wealthy jeff bezos is if there robust safety nets to take care of less fortunate citizens.

No one really advocates communism anymore, it's all about social democracy.
Those robust safety nets could be a lot stronger if the wealthy carried their weight.

The wealthy pay way more taxes than any other group

And safety nets don't help the poor, they just raise the cost of living, especially for healthcare

So im currently exploring the topic of socialism/communism and it seems like a lot of people who aren't capable of providing much of anything of value to society believing that people should give them things for free.

Had anyone read into this topic and can someone explain what if anything a communist society ought to look like and is any of it grounded in reality?

Who determines what constitutes meaningful work? I'd think a doctors work is more valuable than an athletes but society has chosen otherwise by the amount of money they voluntarily pour into sports entertainment.

It's relative, of course. However, pretty safe to say that a majority of the workforce find no fulfillment out of their job and it's just a means to an end. I worked a cubicle job only once in my entire life, and I left it after falling into an existential crisis that bordered on suicidal ideation.

The difference between a medical expense and an entertainment expense is that the former involves spending money we may not always have on things that we need, whereas entertainment is money we have spent on merely something we want. I agree with fender though about the general importance of entertainment for mental health though too.

An ideal society allows people to buoyantly float at their own level of ability. Our less than ideal society rewards people who don't contribute and often punishes the people that do contribute.

Strong families and community organizations are the best ways to fill in the cracks for those who still have material troubles.

The liberal narrative of hedonism and political correctness has rotted away the family. That evil led us towards our many other evils in the current day.

Taxation isn't a communist mechanism at all.

I agree with the sentiment that the wealthy are generally low value contributors to society, but to be clear I don't associate monetary/fiscal wealth with high value. So when I see someone like a Elon Musk, I consider them higher value than a Jeff Bezos type, billionaire status aside. In the past, I was very against the communist/socialist concepts, but the US dream vs reality is pretty dismal. In reality, most coming from middle/lower classes can expect to be financially dept-strapped indentured servants to the corporate state. Talking about those 30 year mortgages on overvalued properties, and state building codes/permitting codified to keep it that way. Or the droves of people with 5/6 digit college debts, but the bankruptcy system not really clearing that like other types of debt.

Makes me re-consider communist/socialist concepts.
