There are even conspiracy theories that this whole angle is intended to take down Biden, not Trump. He is a lousy front-runner and would make for a lousy candidate, and the Democratic strategists know it. But due to Biden's institutional support and his strong ties with the black community, there is a good chance that he might become the nominee over more qualified candidates like Warren. From this point of view, this whole Ukrainegate saga kills two birds with one stone. Or actually three birds, since it's also a very effective distraction from the abysmal platform the Democratic candidates are presenting during their primary debates.


I also havent been following this Ukraine storyline too closely yet. Spent the last 9 days on vacation and barely followed the news, and even before then, I was too bored to read into the convoluted details of this case.

How the fuck is Warren more qualified than a former VICE PRESIDENT? Give me a fucking break. The guy has almost a decade of executive experience and over 3 decades of legislative experience. He's probably one of the most qualified candidates EVER.

As for the Ukraine investigation, I'd wait for more evidence to come out. I think the consensus is that if you hate Trump, this is an outrageous abuse of power. If you love Trump, you think this is a nothingburger. If you're trying to be non-partisan, there's quite a bit of smoke on this one. Much more than the Mueller investigation.

I think the libertarian perspective would be the US should mind it's own business and let Russia and Ukraine work this out themselves.

If Americans are profiteering they are individuals not representatives of the US and they are at the mercy of the foreign powers whose jurisdiction they are under wherever they are. If they violate laws in Russia's or Ukraine's jurisdiction then they are at their mercy.

As far as a sitting sovereign shaming his competition for possible corruption relating for foreign entanglements , well, anything goes and its not libel or slander if it's true, and the competition is free to attempt to sue if it isn't true through established lawful means.

I am not talking about the resumé or the formal qualifications, I am talking about actually being qualified for the job. Biden was decent 10 years ago, but he definitely is past his expiration date by now. He's a senile old fart with bad instincts, low reaction times and seemingly little fighting spirit when put under pressure. For example, he stood there and took Harris' abuse over busing like a helpless victim instead of countering her with the simple point that "everyone hated busing, including overwhelming majorities of blacks. his support of busing contributed to McGovern's landslide loss in 72, one of the worst electoral losses in modern american history" - this is the point that immediately had to come to the mind of every informed and witty observer of their debate, but Biden couldnt come up with any counter to Harris' bullshit.

Warren, on the other hand, still is on top of her game. While I disagree with almost every policy of hers and definitely dont want to see her become president, it is undeniable that she knows her policy, and that she is running a smart, savvy campaign which is playing the long game very efficiently.

People keep saying "trump will have all his supporters vote if x happens" as if they wouldn't anyway.
The real issue is if the dems can get all their voters to show up, if every person in the country votes, the right lose by a landslide.

I think his fighting spirit is just fine and he's certainly not senile. If you watch some of his longer interviews, you would see that it's not the case. I certainly trust his judgment and instincts FAR more than Trump's. Also, I think you're really out of touch with a large section of Democratic voters. Do you honestly think that your comment would have been effective? I certainly don't because the voters have no interesting in hearing something like that.

As for Warren being a better campaigner, I tend to agree. She's done an incredible job and is the only true threat to Biden. I'm not convinced she can win in the general but we'll have to see.
