I guess you can..... uh.... frame it as "currying favor with their media allies" to give it a positive spin?!

I'm not sure about the robocop candidate though. I think the core of their struggle is that large parts of their agenda are not very popular with the broader pulbic, while their activist base is hell bent on pushing these things through. The choice of the candidate cant really solve this problem.

At the same time, Trump has proven very good at keeping his base energized and happy. So perhaps it actually was good strategy to inject extra energy into their own rank and file via the Mueller probe and all the surrounding hysteria. Perhaps their best bet for 2020 is indeed to use outrage over everything Trump as an extra boost which barely gets them across the finish line.

And even if one concludes that the Mueller probe was not helpful electorally, it still cast a shadow of doubt over Trump's presidency and his legitimacy, which might have prevented him from enacting even more items from his platform.

Stymieing Trump's momentum between Nov 16 and summer 17, and thus stopping his presidency dead in its tracks, was perhaps the primary objective of the entire Mueller probe, and it succeed in this sense.

halting the platform rollout was about it's only real 'win'. a fairly shallow victory imo as it could have been done with just normal media coverage. no need for the investigation itself. trump would have run 24-7 on CNN whether they did it anyways.

the robocop would have been easy, around the start of 2018 spend time in MI, PA, WI, OH, etc building a relationship with out of work sectors and making actual real tangible plans for job replacement in the specific districts that are struggling. work on CJ reform ideas that arent just bland bullshit. maybe pick someone whos in business to keep their schedule free and counter trump as the business candidate. throw Obama under the bus and meet ever bit of whataboutism with a "yeah they didnt do it right either" response. push legal pot.

this shit isnt hard, but its hard when your own tool is a spotlight and you're fixed on trump only and his racist, bigoted, election stealing, etc etc etc etc behavior.

as i said in the start. too high of a standard with people believing Trump was some Putin plant who worked hand in hand to dupe the american people and steal and election. people got worked up, and people make a lot of dumb choices when they're eyes are filled with delicious tears.

there never was a connection between trump and the Russian govt in earnest, as i said at the start. this is the fucking KGB, did people think they handed you a receipt and validated your parking for the Kremlin parking ramp?

this whole thing was a waste of time and money that just enriched the media companies. it was driven by them for them to make cash. they knew all along it wouldnt find shit and they could report on mundane detail after mundane detail. and that people wouldnt get tired of the lack of new real finds.

2016 was lost. they should have focused on 2020. it was like the saints trying to get the call overturned after they lose in the playoffs. did they expect the NFL to have a rehosted game and put off the superbowl another week? its hard to take an L in the modern era, people need to be humbled.

at what point will you be at "the real point was the friends we made along the way" territory?

like, if literally Flynn and Manafort are the only 'casualties' what will be your takeaway?

a. "this is unfair, clearly he should have been decapitated on the white house lawn for treason"

b. "the deep state was actually for Trump all along and rigged the election rigging investigation. also look into building 7"

c. "no results are worth any cost as long as orange man looks silly"

d. "finally i understand that thesnipa was right and will pm him for lottery numbers"

e. "K harris 2020, its her time"

Lol, of course it would have be easy to win again with a more centrist platform. But this is exactly what the Democrats do not want to do. Their activists and their voter base dont just want to win for winning's sake, they want to win to get their policy priorities enacted. And these policy priorities are drifting sharply to the left, in the opposite direction of "lets embrace small business owners" or "lets put extra effort into solving the struggles of globalization victims in the midwest". The undercurrent of the present-day Democratic party is "coastal urban diverse america is the true america, fuck everyone else because we are the majority and stand on the right side of history".

What you're describing is, in a certain sense, the Bill Clinton playbook from 92, when the Democrats shifted far to the right from where they were, and nominated a centrist or even center-right candidate. But in 92, they had just badly lost 12 years in a row, while they only have one big loss on the record recently, in 2016. A loss which can plausibly be interpreted as a fluke.

tldr: Kamala Harris 2020, it's her time.

I don't know what you're talking about.

I get that the cult will play revisionist history with the Russia investigation... I'm not sure why you are. I've defended it a million times here, and talked about all the damning findings(short of a conspiracy). But hey, jump on the retard bandwagon because no conspiracy was found. Much objectivity.

Yes, the Mueller report will be the Democrats' Benghazi hearings. Glad you noticed your flavor of derangement syndrome. The next step is doing something about the derangement.

the democrats think they need to appease their radical base. as does trump in many cases. neither of the packs of idiots seem to realize its a 2 party ticket at the end of the day and those people will angrily vote for their party no matter how centrist they are. they're trying to copy trumps 2016 strategy, with no regards for how the game has changed as a result of trump 2016 win.

so you're a losing fighter who says in the press conference "hey, at least i gave him a black eye before i was knocked unconscious".

damning findings, one would think that means he'd be damned, instead of in a damned better place than he was when the investigation started. he's not leaving office, and will win again in 2020, at least in part due to the investigation itself. his son and son in law arent in jail, just a few patsies and a creepy ex lawyer. those damning findings youre standing on as a crutch are the best case scenario for trump. this is his wildest dream so far, short of just being dropped instantly. he is and always has been dirtier than fuck and everyone knew it, and still looks clean somehow. much damning.

also thanks for choosing option C.

Framing the investigation as merely a political issue is buying into the Trump cult retardation... I reject it completely.

Here's the facts: the investigation was warranted and properly predicated based on the behavior of the idiots Trump hired, Trump's behavior before and after the election in regards to Russia was suspicious and shady, his attempts to obstruct the investigation were dumb as fuck considering he didn't conspire, and whether in the end it helped him politically or not has no relation to the merits of the investigation.

Do you make decisions on moral grounds alone?

if someone calls my wife a slut, slaps her ass, then spits in my face i should probably do something. if that guy is The Rock i wont tho.

my question is, how empty can your hands be hypothetically for you to say you wish the investigation wasn't done at all?

because what i'm gathering is that you think the gruel you've been served thusfar was well worth the cost. and that baffles me. it is a few sacrificed scapegoats and everything else has had no political or legal effect on trump or his inner circle.

at some point dont you just have to think the cost benefit analysis isnt worth it? are you still holding out hope that an obstruction charge or something on that level drops? or does this circus today finally resign you to the fact that no felony charges are coming for Trump or his inner circle?

i'm all for truth and righteousness when i think i can win. but i seem to pick my battles far more carefully than you have with regards to mueller. at some point its beating a dead horse, and all of the 'damning evidence' stuff turns to nothing but sour grapes.
