The most important quality to buddhism is meditation and using the process to first understand and gain selfawareness and then restrain ones thoughts and actions to rid oneself of unnecessary distractions.

If youre serious Id suggest the Tibetan Book of Living and Dying. Its about the tibetan traditions but it outlines the practice in full and is written very straightfowardly.

Theres also a decent documentary about the origin of the practice called The Buddha for skimming.

Thanks, I'll check them out.

Like all religions they are meant to be used as a diving board into the ocean of the unknown. One can not know all answers and truths. We can only vaguely see the tip of the iceberg of knowledge and wisdom. Many will not step on the diving board. Fewer will dive into the ocean, and even fewer will swim to the iceberg to discover what's beneath the water. Like I said before in many of your other topics you are preaching to the choir here. Most people who posted have little or a vague understanding of Buddhism in itself, and they admit that. I have not seen a single post on this forum that would lead me to believe that one of these people is a guru. Everyone wants to achieve some form of enlightenment or nirvana, but few are willing to walk the walk. It's much easier for them to talk the talk and try and make holes where there are none. I highly recommend going to a temple where you will find REAL monks and guru's. I spend hours talking to a swami and a guru who both practice Vedanta. They are all teachers and are willing to help you on your path. They will not judge you. Imagine walking into a Hindu temple during prayer and being the only "white" man in the temple. Most devotees cannot understand why you are there. They are quick to judge and stare, but all the monks, swamis, and gurus know that like them you have sought and only seek the truth, and they will be happy to speak of their path as well as guide you on your own when you are lost. Namaste my friend :bonk:

Reading op book was big part of mine from neutral - nihilistic atheism to current search
A gateway nevertheless and leads to discussion, ment to post more discussion
due to several life-criseses and heavy drug use last week dealing with myself has been quiet enough for some time now with setbacks but with
This is diablo 2 forum afterall so plenty must have been or are in the same situation
If marginalized subjects aren't discussed they will stay marginalized

Maybe sign of a fool but fool for good causes.
Fear of life and will to die has been so total most of my life so some of what i've been writing might be fair enough
Quit two anti-psychotics some weeks ago and and have been on psychotic break almost non stop since last fall
Paranoid/catatonic/disorganized schizophrenia, traumas, autism spectrum, manic-depression, having issues with all of the personality disorders so communication and holding things together has not been easy and insights rarely stable
I'm back to basics and not talking to people in the know might seem crazy but snooze button on this one fore some time might not be so bad either

Cheers :)
