as per the specific objection you raise, does it make a substantial difference?
if you check

you will notice that the profiles of the states are not that different to substantially change the conclusion from the acticle linked in the op
what i think is more relevant though is the proven fact that evangelicals have a substantially higher divorce rate than the rest of the population
and whom do most evangelical vote for (regardless of the state)?
