Heres something to think about.

Depending on a persons personal religious belief.

Does this have a significant effect on their fear of death? Or does it change the "value of life"?

Absolutely, to both questions.

I would agree its mysterious I guess. I should have chose a different topic title.

Basically I acknowledge I know little about what really happens after death. Or whether or not there's a higher power. Usually I go with a more "logical" idea..

It is fun to theorize and talk about. And compare others beliefs to our own.

To people that are not so set on their beliefs, and "keep an open mind"

Agreed, but neither is more logical than the other.

Don't know why people are jumping down the OP's throat. Comparing the experience of 'death' with the experience of 'not yet being alive' is an elegant solution. It's the only reasonable comparison that we can make, in fact. Makes the desperate fantasy of an afterlife seems completely rediculous and arbitrary.

Comparisons made about something we cannot experience without dying is not a reasonable comparison.

There is no reasonable comparison.

We know exactly what happens after you die: The exact state of being you were in for 14 billion years before you were born. You conscious experience is completely dependent on your brain, and once your brain stops working, you stop being able to perceive the world around you.

There is not a shred of evidence to the contrary, and no other postulation regarding an afterlife falls in the realm of reasonable possibility.

Only what I know to exist can possibly exist.

PS. What state were you in 18 billion years before you were born?

Death is mysterious, what is the OP exactly trying to show considering there is no way to currently explore what happens? In my opinion, one has to be agnostic about it. Even the religious can't know for certain their own fate.

I do think the fear of death fuels the need for religion. There is no credible evidence for life after death, yet people firmly believe in heaven, hell, or reincarnation. But that's another discussion entirely.

I was a non entity. The matter I am composed of now still existed, but my consciousness did not.

Death is not mysterious.... It's like carrying around a laptop and dropping it on the floor and wondering why hell it doesn't work anymore. ooooOOOOooo mysterious..

So your lack of evidence is better than others' lack of evidence? Lol.

Pretty sure we don't know. No, actually, I know we don't know.
