9/11 was significant to me and alot of Americans and this is all I really care about.

Sure, it might affect the country of the attack, which in turn might affect other countries, but it didn't directly affect the rest of the world. I think to say it "Changed the world forever" is overshooting it.

Well, American security policies, the way that we fired up many of our allies into joining coalitions to invade Afghanistan and later Iraq, INTERPOL stepping up, helping to lead to the Bali and London bombings (among many other attacks)... it was definitely a pretty big change for a whole lot of the world who had to deal with the fallout or help with the fighting.
