Why is this even a topic.

1. Citizen
2. Proof of Citizenship, Passport, National Identification Card.
3. No criminal Record or to be specific, No violent / Anti Government Criminal record ( Murder, Rape, Domestic Terrorism.)
4. If One has Dual Citizenship ... Cannot Vote.
5. Permanent Resident ( Green Card ) cannot Vote.

This + high school diploma/GED would be my answer, too.

I don't agree with this. I do agree with faster citizenship for society contributing individuals, though.

If anything, such an option should be limited to individuals who are not merely contributing, but whose families in their entirety are net tax payers, i.e. their family is paying more in taxes, health insurance premiums etc. than they receive in benefits, services, proportionate infrastructure costs and so on. So yeah, if you and your stay-at-home wife are on food stamps or live in assisted housing while collecting child benefits for 7 kids, even a regular $40k/year job won't cut it.

To be perfectly clear: this standard would exclude the vast majority of illegals, visa overstayers, asylum seekers and other types of non-merit-based immigrants. Heck, it would probably even exclude a non-negligible percentage of the H-1B migrants.

I would expand citizenship requirements to allow for undocumented people who have been living in the US in good standing to vote. Some X years via supportive data such as ITIN payments, etc.

What would be your criteria to determine "good standing", particularly since we're talking about a group which, by definition, is only in the US to begin with because they broke the law at some point?

The decline of our republic can be traced back to when we allowed non-property owners to vote. I think this is the ideal system because of the lack of moral hazard.

Non-property owners have been allowed to vote in all states since at least 1856 - yet the country peaked, depending on perspective, in either the 1950s or the 1990s.

I like how we're still talking about this cause some 80 year old whiney bitch is still crying about losing an election 6 years ago.

If the only law that they broke is with respect to immigration, and they otherwise are contributing members of their community, are contributing tax revenue, and have no other justice involvement of note then I would consider them to be in good standing generally speaking. The country was founded on ideals of no taxation without representation and the IRS is happy to collect billions of tax revenue from undocumented individuals either via payroll deductions or ITINs.

I know about this, and I know exactly how it works... don't ask me why
They don't exactly "ICE" illegals as long as they are paying " Huge " amount of Tax.....specifically in New York City.

You can even "open" a bank account with certain banks ... even if you overstayed.....not a citizen or green card holder....a few specific banks are " More than happy " to help you.

In normal countries they will take your passport etc etc and check if you are here on holiday (basically if you go to any country and open bank account to invest it is quite easy), but those banks will also take note when you come in and probably ask questions like when are you leaving.

Some banks in USA...wink wink.........do....not.....care..
If you have connections and maybe pay a "fee" .... you can have a RM private meeting.....deposit a few million " cash " and everyone will be smiling....kinda like a scene in "Breaking Bad" ..

thats where the idea dies unfortunately. I would be 100% for this but Conservatives would never, ever let something like this happen

making people pay for an ID in order to be able to vote is illegal since it can be rightly considered a poll tax. furthermore, elections are not a federal issue they are a state issue so literally every single change OP wants to make would be impossible to implement for every state in the union short of a full on fascist takeover

i'd love to see a comprehensive study on what % of voters would be disenfranchised by a voter ID requirement with state by state data. making it happen is an issue, clearing it by SCOTUS is another hurdle after, but ive never even seen good data. i just keep hearing about all these poor unfortunate souls that will have their rights stripped if we require an ID. i dont think ive ever met more than 1 or 2 grown adults in america who don't have an ID, although im sure they exist.

The same people who complain voter ID have no problem presenting their ID at a gas station for a pack cigarettes or a 6 pack. Its the most pathetic excuse.

For the 5 people who genuinely don't have an ID its like $10-$40 depending on the state. I don't think its possible to live in a society without ID. Unless you are living in the woods larping as a tribal.

i think its a big city thing. even in SUPER poor rural areas most have a driver's license. but in a city like new york you can have a bus pass and get wherever u need without ID, vote without ID, EBT card for groceries, bodega worker doesnt card for smokes/beer, etc.

It is genuinely wild.

It’s also amusing that this supposed huge reveal from trump is already starting to get buried on conservative media sites. My guess is it’ll be completely buried by the end of the day. Fox News already has stories about hooters girls, Sophie Cunningham, etc front and center over this. Even conservative media wants trump to shut up about this already.

I'd like to see some stricter rules around eligibility to run primarily age, and invested assets. We have had enough ultra wealthy old folk in politics that are absolutely removed from the common American.

So you want to remove congress from using the stock exchange?
