Yeah its called Realpolitik
Its such a foreign concept to us, to actually strategize and care about the geopolitical balance of power and self-interested control of resources.
I have never opposed the likes of Lindsay Graham or Hillary Clinton for their willingness to approach geopolitics as a cynical game, only their lack of competency at long term strategy. At least in Graham's case there was a transparent motivation to support his state's industry because all war was a net positive from that narrow lens. But for our country, the issue wasn't our willingness to intervene it was our discretion at when and where to intervene.
Ukraine is an example of that. Thanks to our color revolution intervention and long war of attrition, we've hiccuped Russia's economy and aligned the rest of the world powers against us. Russia has seized most of the critical resources of Ukraine with all their industry and mining and a good chunk of their arable land and most of the coastline, while we've gained control over the destitute western half with sparse resources. We'll emerge from the war with a net drain on the EU, more hungry mouths to feed and the influx of refugees and a perpetual demilitarized front to prop up, while Ukrainian neo-nazis are a thorn in our side because they will inevitably turn against us like syrian ISIS did. But we dragged down Russia a little. Which would be a goal, if we had the pea-brain worldview that we're still in the cold war against Russia and they are our biggest world power rival. Except they aren't, China is. And now China and Russia and India and most of Africa and SEA and a swathe of South America are willing to work around western banking and circumvent the petrodollar.
