From my perspective, Bush, Obama and Biden did not threaten to invade an EU country. Trump did. Prior to the Iraq wars, an attempt at a narrative was made by the US, which was palatable to most of Europe. Prior to the bombing of Iran in 2025 and again in 2026, as well as the bombing of Venezuela, the narrative from the US was infantile. You say that the US was not loved. This is not reality. The reality was that Europe was very happy with the US as an ally, was very happy to adopt American culture and, broadly, was very pro-American.

Donald Trump has told Europe that the relationship is transactional, not rooted in alliances. No American president has been this blunt. That is the difference you are refusing to see. Not some American Empire, but rather, This President, his Foreign and Domestic Policies.t.

from an American perspective Europe's view of the US was always transactional. It was positive in many ways because you were getting the best of the transaction. And the average European lifestyle was better than it is today by contrast. Now your lives are getting worse due to falling birthrates, increased migration, and rising costs of living.

Now i of course wouldn't argue that Trump in a general sense hasn't affected European viewpoints, its just that the World Cup is a blip on the radar.

This post is a violation of the site rules and appropriate action was taken.

Handegg is a great sport for fat people that need to take a breather every 20 seconds

Project all you want, but soccer is a sport of peasants. Another indicator the migrant surge was too large, now we have to cater to peasant sports.

Scotland only 1-0 over Haiti, Canada tie with Bosnia. At least America built a good lead on Paragay.

I thought all three had a decent chance of making it out of the first round at least even tho they all blow. Only good team I like is England, if they lose on wednesday I will storm the whitehouse with you OP. If you can make it into the US, that is, I know a lot of terrorist countries are banned

The 2026 World Cup: A Hostile Environment Dressed as a Celebration

In 2018, the United States, Canada and Mexico won their bid to host the 2026 World Cup. No issue here—FIFA rotates hosts at the continent level and it was their time. Behind the scenes, FIFA, and more directly its president, Gianni Infantino, has for decades cultivated relationships with political figures, including Donald Trump.

Infantino made it his business to seek business ties with Trump. In 2020, FIFA leased space in Trump Tower. In January 2025, he attended Trump's inauguration rally. In March, he gifted Trump with the original Club World Cup trophy (the actual winners, Chelsea FC, received a replica). Infantino has frequently visited Trump at Mar-a-Lago, and in October 2025, he was personally invited by Trump to attend a Gaza peace summit in Egypt.

In 2025 the USA, under Donald Trump's command, bombed Somalia, Iraq, Yemen, Syria and Nigeria. The US provided bombs to Israel (2000lbs bombs) to flatten Gaza. He threatened to annex Greenland and Canada, resulting in Europe and Canada having to re-examine their relationship with the USA. Donald Trump claimed that he brokered a ceasefire between Pakistan and India, and asked India to nominate him for the Nobel Peace Prize. When India refuted his claims and said NO, he imposed draconian tariffs against India. This led to India turning to its longtime rival, China, and currently India and China are exploring their new relationship. The list goes on and on. However, in Dec 2025 FIFA awarded Donald Trump with their "Peace Prize".

The World Cup has officially started. Somali referee Omar Artan, recognized as the greatest referee from Africa—EVER—was detained, interrogated, accused of terrorist links, and denied entry. The US carried out a Britney Griner on the Iraqi team, detaining their captain for seven hours, searching his phone, interrogating their photographer for ten hours before deporting him, and making everything extremely difficult for Iran—forcing them to relocate to Mexico, denying 15 staff visas, and restricting players to match-day-only entry.

Amnesty International noted travel bans barring fans from Senegal, Iran, Ivory Coast, Haiti, and elsewhere, proposals for social media vetting, and over 500,000 deportations in 2025 alone. Nor were European allies spared. Scottish fans had their ESTAs revoked at the last minute. German citizens have been detained. A climate of fear in the Netherlands led to a 174,000-signature petition calling for a boycott.

The United States, under Donald Trump, created an environment that was fundamentally hostile to the very idea of a global sporting event. Meanwhile, Mexico and Canada offered a stark contrast—Mexico sheltering the displaced Iranian team in Tijuana, Canada preparing for the tournament without mass detentions or ICE patrols, both co-hosts remembering that the World Cup is supposed to be about welcoming the world, not intimidating it.

You have to understand this, its a big year in the US being the 250th year anniversary. So with that and the US hosting world cup, many travelers will come here. Safety is the top priority. Regardless of what you think, precautions must be taken. Whether they are just or not, we simply do not know.

What is known is that the US is currently in a conflict with Iran, Somali has terrorist cells, people from these nations cannot be simply let in if there is cause or suspicion. Evil doers dont put the idea of a "global sporting event" above their plots or actions. Plain and simple.

You cant simply assume everyone who was questioned or denied was done so without cause and they are only here to play soccer.... so dont. We just dont know the facts or reasons. But again Safety is the top concern.

Also, dont act like the US is some how bad for taking these precautions... You dont think other host nations would? It doesnt help that US and Iran are in a unresolved conflict.

There are a few things to unpack here. I won't comment on the anniversary—that's a minefield.

You say safety is the top priority, and I agree - precautions must be taken. why? Because the US has gone out of its way to create enemies. But what then of ICE enforcement over the last year and a half? Where was the safety for normal Americans when ICE detained or deported them? And what about the college protests, where students and teachers were assaulted while police stood by and let it happen? The US is selectively discriminating against certain countries under a banner of "Safety First." That is discriminating. To state that you do not know if something is just or not means you are still open to persuasion. That is not a terrible position to have.

With brevity: the US flew its bombers around the world in 2025 and again in 2026 to bomb Iran. Not because Iran was about to bomb the United States. Not because Iran was about to bomb Israel. In geopolitical affairs, these actions are regarded as wars of aggression. The US went on an adventure. Perhaps refraining from such adventures in the future will equate to less risk of the adventure coming home to the United States? Which is why Canada and Mexico are safer countries for fans.

going back on topic ->

Historically, World Cup group stage tickets were accessible, with average resale prices around $687 in 2014 ($920 today) and official face-value options as low as $69 in 2022. For 2026 in America, the situation has changed dramatically. The U.S. legal resale market allows professional brokers—many American—to buy tickets during FIFA sales and relist them with no price caps. FIFA facilitates this by taking a commission on its official Resale Marketplace. This is pure capitalism at work: scarcity, high demand, and no price controls. Resellers charge what the market will bear, even if that means seats sit empty. The result is average group stage resale prices of $1,277, with some matches exceeding $2,500. The clearest consequence is visible on television: empty seats at World Cup matches, not because tickets are unavailable, but because fans have been priced out. In this capitalist system, maximum profit takes priority over filling stadiums.

The US exports capitalism selectively, in order to ensure US profits surge. When the US government refused to allow Nvidia to sell advanced chips to China, it was framed as national interest. But when China responded by saying, "OK, we will ban the sale of all Nvidia chips in China," the US cried foul. Similarly, when the US sanctioned Russian energy exports, and India continued buying Russian oil, the US cried foul. India's response was simple: we are a willing buyer on the international market, purchasing at market value. That is capitalism. So what is the problem? The problem is that the US only believes in free markets when it is winning. When others play the same game—by the same rules—America calls it unfair.

Imagine if the Superbowl was held in another country and the price per ticket was increased inline with what we are seeing with the World Cup.

lol imagine thinking preventing criminals from entering your country is hostility towards others... ferdia youre soft
Canada has also restricted access to certain individuals in the name of public safety... as it should, but you conveniently failed to mention that. world cup is not an excuse to drop border rules and regulations, lol

time for criminals and terrorists to understand traveling abroad is a privilege, not a right.
