It's by their choice. The vast majority of people openly prefer to be fat & lazy into old age, which as you and I know is the root cause of being miserable.
But it's completely by their own choice and volition. A gym membership is cheap, and the outdoors is free.
I would make the argument that it makes people better off to force them to do physical activity, "arbeit macht frei" so to speak. But the broader public hasn't yet got there intellectually, I guess they'll have to suffer for longer.
/e Being miserable under 30 is also because of a lack of intensive physical activity, which completely destroys your ability to physically perform. The biggest problem I see here is the government very openly encouraging people to be miserable - pushing the idea that lifting weights & practicing sports is "toxic masculinity" and makes you evil.
None of this negates a general happiness as well as significant rising wealth gap resulting in essentially younger generations without estate inheritance working multiple jobs to engage is the incrediblely over pushed consumerism society that is the USA. Where you dream of a miserable suburban life with 2 tahoes in the driveway and realize shit now I need a boat I'll never use either.
Now obviously my comment was a hyperbolic joke, I clearly don't think working is a death camp but the fact it even riled people up to defend this shit system we have probably means theirs hints of truth to how miserable the system is for coming generations.
They are not getting that boomer and Gen x life.
