So let the victims pay for them to be jailed? Cool. Have you ever been to prison in the US? 3 square meals a day, shelter and access to a higher education. That’s more than some law abiding citizens get and to some people not even a punishment. I used to volunteer at a church on dinner nights where we fed the homeless and a lot of our regulars would purposely get locked up just to get food and shelter.

Believing such conditions is a punishment is easily a first world problem here in the states because our facilities are no where near as horrific as a lot of prisons around the world.

I think the main goal of jails is to reintegrate the inmates back into society. At least where iam living almost 50% of the people there sit for a crime worth 1-5 years. It makes sense to treat them decently and start profiting from them after their punishment, without relapsing again.

It’s giving privilege to those that haven’t earned it. Like I said. There are tons of US citizens who can’t afford college but have to have their tax dollars go to fund criminals to get degrees. That makes absolutely zero sense when a inmate gets more help than a law abiding citizen.
