France and the US have supported each other in the past in various wars. Both people, the French politician, and the White House press secretary made stupid political statements to rile up support.

It’s what politics largely is these days. Substance free, political teeth gnashing.

Both of them are being dumb here.

This is one of the longest, deepest, and most impactful historical friendships in world history, the US and France. Massive favors have gone both ways. They helped us become a country, we helped them remain one, twice. This is pretty sad and I mostly put that on the French leadership for not recognizing that while indeed the historical friendship exists, the US is obviously the senior partner, and they need to know the score

honestly if they really want it back that badly, take it, I'd say if any country has earned it, it's France. But it's on their dime and their labor. We can build something bigger and cooler in her place
