This is the worst post in the history of d2jsp.
In what way?
Rape can certainly traumatize a person. And if the rape is a brutal rape, it can leave them permanently scarred. However, the victim still lives, and still has a shot at living a fairly normal life.
A murder victim is dead. Period. There's no coming back. The nature of the two crimes is incredibly different.
One of the things noted in States where the penalty for Rape is comparable to the penalty to murder is that rape victims are murdered after the rape more often than let go. Apparently rapists feel that letting their victim live just gives them the opportunity to contact authorities and snitch them out. Thus, if they're going to be facing charges comparable to murder anyhow, why not just murder the person they just raped. That way at least, there will be no reports, the victim just goes on the list with tens of thousands of other "missing persons" and if they hide the body well enough, they may never get caught.
I'd be interested in hearing your reasoning as to what benefits are gained by treating rape as though it is exactly the same as, or as bad as, murder. Not even saying I'll disagree, I may agree wholeheartedly. However, all false allegations aside, once you ratchet the penalty for being caught for a crime to murder, you have INCENTIVIZED the perpetrator to escalate to murder, as murder prevents the victim from accusing you.
