I will never understand why most white people spend time competing against other white people on who is the least racist/sexist.

tbh, its just understanding others isn't it. we don't really have to! empathy is good, but we only need to use it in relation to ourselves to be good people, we are ourselves and should be proud

That's very true, we don't need to understand one another to respect one another.

Justice?

I interpreted it as taking pleasure in witnessing other people express feelings of despair.

The reactions are pretty saddening. Have seen multiple friends and family post absolutist hateful things because the result did not go their way. Generalizations that any Trump vote means the voter is evil, dumb, racist, bigot, misogynist, anti-gay, anti-woman. It makes me think of the Bukowski poem 'Genius of the Crowd'.

Similar with some pro-Trump sadist responses.

How do you even broker a conversation when the other person has already committed to absolutist generalizations of your character based on a single vote? Some of these are people I have helped immensely.

I asked IceMage, if in their view, there is such a thing as a conscionable Trump vote (twice). First reply dodged, then second no response.

Really wondering how Trump will bridge the divides... Or if he will even try

I guess he appointed a Women Chief of Staff, haven't looked into it just saw headline.

Yeah, I think that demonization is a dehumanizing experience and unfortunate that simply by voting for Trump it means that X, Y, and Z generalization must therefore be true. Life and people are much more complex than this.

Not quite, but half the population reveled in cruel glee from our despair of how we were treated the past 8 years, hundreds of thousands of suicides and overdoses

One of the most common posts i saw on threads (a goldmine for moronic takes if you like reading them as i do) was "if u voted trump you're out of my life forever, block me or i'll block you".

when you've decided an echo chamber is not just happenstance but preferable, well, its over for you.

when you've decided there's literally only one reason people can support trump or republicans, hate of minorities, well, its over for you.

2016 may have brought lessons but they were mostly forgotten by the time 2020 came to wash them away entirely.
