They could be better at it, but the point is they can check if someone is just lying. Or give context. Idk why you'd not want that.

They “fact checked” him saying concrete true things, and cut his microphone when he corrected them.

Yeah they should've let him continue imo, I guess the producers insisted on fitting every question in and stick strictly to the time limits.

Yeah if you don’t see the problem maybe you are the problem.

Nevermind I misread your post.

Moderators should stick to questions. No imputs or opinions on a candidates answer. Follow up clarification questions are fine.

I disagree, because politicians lie too much and that allows rhetoric to manipulate the public, the goal of a debate should be to inform the voting public on the candidates positions + whether their claims to support that position are factual, so the voters can make an informed decision

Obviously you run the risk of the broadcaster manipulating the public, but it it's just base fact checking and context the risk is a lot less imo than just letting politicians lie with no room for correction.

So just let the moderators lie for them and then silence the senator when he corrects the moderators.

That is correct. You have never heard conservatives blame housing prices on Mexicans.

Obviously you are disingenuously conflating Mexicans with illegal immigrants from literally anywhere on the planet because you need to lie to seem like you have a point, but you are correct in never having heard that. Including just now.

In the internet era, wouldn't it be cool if Walz and Vance just agreed to have like a YouTube debate/conversation stream? No moderator, they're each at their computer and can just Google shit and be like "hey idiot no you're wrong".

If their team is in their ear, even better.

As I already agreed I'd prefer they let them talk, but it's obvious that they're sticking to the format they already decided on and being strict about time limits and he ran out of time, unfortunately. Dumb but not politically motivated.
