It’s a bad thing when it’s in the incompetent hands of someone who confuses the brakes with the accelerator.

This is a subject I've thought a good amount about so I'll interject. I full heartedly believe that most transportation vehicles should be built safely and for the purpose they are being driven for. Vehicles used for general purpose traveling, like say for going to work or groceries, should always be gas efficient cars that cannot go over a speed limit of 75. Only people who need vehicles for work, or for instance, a truck which is only purposed to pull your boat or what have you, which you wouldn't be allowed to drive for any purpose except for the above, lest you be fined harshly for driving a vehicle not purposed for general travel. Obviously some kinks in the line of thinking, but america has for too long been SUV crazy and it's usually people who drive recklessly causing major accidents driving such vehicles. If forced governed speed limits and a massive slow down on the production of SUVs occured many less fatal wrecks would occur.

So much thought...

Governed is not the same thing. A car that has power also accelerates to operating speed more easily, and poor fuel economy stems from long acceleration curves getting to those operating speeds.

Why not 45? It's "safer" and even more efficient.

I'm so glad petty tyrants like you aren't making these decisions.

There is possibly a case for hybrid transportation systems, seen some foreign countries implement green streets or w/e the marking slang was. Something like converting inner city spaces to walking, bike, public transit, then using highway system or something around cities.

In the USz they just shove bike lanes into congested inner city and call it good. Boomer drivers have no clue about the bike lanes usually

When there is a significant problem, you have to start with a significant solution.

I think the idea of limiting civilian movement like that is great, but would be seen as fascism by most Americans unfortunately. America has a serious problem with not allowing an inch be given for the safety of its citizens. And that user misinterprets my intentions because he is anti government which I think is a really funny way to be.

The reason is US is huge. Most public transit models do not work because of the vast distances. When foreigners come here from places like Ireland they are blown away by how used to driving long ass hauls the average joe is. In EU, countries are small and population dense, transit systems evolved from pre ice vehicle era. It's just a result of the market and geographies.

You seem to think a lot about subjects you know nothing about, this seems to be common among liberals, and the managerial class.
I however think the Emissions standards should be done away with completely, let the market work towards more fuel efficient vehicles, let people who need a truck be able to buy a smaller fuel efficient truck that meets their needs.
Have you even seen the strides being made by people with Diesel Electric truck conversions?

Less risk and less damage if granny doesn't have a 400hp SUV. I'm not advocating against high-power cars, I'm advocating against old people driving with some humor.

And to a Canadian, US distances are kids stuff

People who live in big cities or Europe seem to be to be utterly incapable of conceiving anything outside their own bubble of existence
