I gotta disagree here. Since this is the first rematch between two former presidents in well over a century, this election has quasi-unique circumstances. Voters have already seen a presidency of both men play out in practice and will compare them, if not deliberately then at least subconsciously.
You are right that the inconsequential day-to-day fuss and bickering will be forgotten, but imho voters will remember the macro circumstances, the state of the economy and how life felt in general. This is a huge advantage for Trump since his greatest weakness (the daily drama surrounding The Trump Show) is more easily forgotten while his greatest strength (great economy, no foreign wars) will be remembered more.
