You must have missed the numerous recent instances of Democratic mayors of blue cities like New York and Chicago, as well as Democratic governors of blue states like Maura Healey of Massachusetts, calling it a crisis, desperately calling for help from the federal government and generally struggling to deal with even just a tiny fraction of the migrants that are coming across the southern border.

Damn this fool Eric Adams who fell for Republican propaganda and thinks there is a crisis in his city, although this is all just a fabrication and everything is actually fine according to the scholars or PaRD.

If the white house doesn't influence migration numbers, why did border crossings start going up precipitously pretty much the month Biden took office? Note that the covid situation, lockdowns, school closures, restrictions on businesses and public gatherings etc didn't fundamentally change between January 2021 and February/March 2021 (when the surge started), so that can't be the explanation.

Regarding the GOP, I think this is an issue that really divides party elites and the base. The chamber of commerce wing of the party is secretly for high volumes of immigration because they can't ever get enough cheap labor. The neocon/foreign policy focused members of the party largely don't care and would be willing to make concessions on immigration to advance their priorities. But for the MAGA base, and really a huge chunk of the rank and file, immigration is a big priority and one of the most galvanzing issues.

Why are we pretending we need any cheap labor? Uyghurs produce all our shit for free. AND can be harvested for organs at need.

I mean, I guess somebody is needed to clean the toilet at the hotels for below minimum wage, and tend to the gardens of the politicians.

House Republicans already passed a bill that would actually improve the border. It's called H.R.2 and went nowhere in the Democrat-controlled Senate.


Because the bill drafted by the Senate wouldn't actually do anything to solve the problem while making things worse in a lot of ways. Here are some noteworthy details from the Senate bill:




The bill increases the volume of legal immigration per year. It normalizes a number of 5000 illegal border crossing per day/1.8million illegals per year by saying "extraordinary action is only necessary if numbers surpass this threshold". The authority to crack down on the border which gets triggered above this treshold can be waived by the president at any time. And it's limited to a certain number of days per year. A cap which also decreases every year. And the bill gives the DoH the ability to outright grant asylum status without judicial review or cap - a status which enables full access to welfare and government payments and sets the migrants on a pathway toward citizenship. And the bill makes the liberal-leaning DC circuit court the only court in which this bill can litigated. And a significant chunk of the funding that this bill allocates for "border security" would actually go to federally funded lawyers for the asylum seekers, lmfao.

As long as a Democrat is president and pro-open-border figures run the administration, this bill makes the situation outright worse than the status quo. If a Republican is in the WH, he is only granted additional powers to secure the border once an absurdly high volume of illegal entries is exceeded. Powers which he can only use for a limited number of days. And the DC court, which is full of pro-swamp, pro-migration bureaucrats, can kneecap him with ease.

All in all, this bill does more to institutionalize the current status quo at the border than to change it. And it gives future Democratic administrations the power to increase the the immigration numbers even further while kneecapping future Republican presidents who want to crack down on the border.

But its a bipartisan bill that many republicans support and when the hogs bring up why they vote the bill down none of them mention what you put they just say they dont want to help Biden and make him look good, which means the bill is actually good for the people. How coudl you support a bunch of hogs that are actively trying to make your life worse, being that this made up border crisis is so important to you. You should want something to get done. But you dont, why? Becuase you are just repuking out propaganda talking points and dont actually know what you want

What Republicans have come out and said they don't support the Bill specifically just because they don't want to help Biden? Everyone who has bothered to read the bill has been extremely harsh about it. Far from securing our border, it opens it up. Rather than appropriating funding for something like a wall or increased security on the border, or even the military, it gifts more to Ukraine and Israel than to our own military.
