The thing is, he wasn't convicted of any crime in a court of law, he was found to be more likely than not by a civil jury of having engaged in the conduct. I believe the jury, tbh, but Trump making protestations of his innocence strikes me as a legitimate claim (in that he was never convicted) and that making such claims is not defaming.
