My point is that no, armed conflict is not coming.... because the optics of sending tanks to force the border to remain wide open would be too disastrous for the federal government.
Mayorkas is pardoning/releasing the vast majority of them into the country.
ICE funding only helps if the agents are actually turning folks around at the border, or detain and deport the bulk of those they encounter in the interior. Furthermore, it is on political leadership and its messaging that so many people are trying to get into the US to begin with. By asking for more ICE funding while not showing any intentions of changing said messaging, the Biden admin wants the taxpayer to pony up for the symptoms of the crisis of their own making.
This is a conflation of topics in some sense. almost half of those paroled into the US weren't illegal immigrants. they used a phone app to schedule a meeting at a US border crossing, were screened, and then allowed to enter legally. i dont like that, personally, but it's a legal process allowed for the executive office to use. that can be restricted by congress, so far it hasn't. so that's something like 420k out of the 1 million.
then there's afghanistan and ukranian refugees, comprising another 273k out of the 1 million.
meaning when you read "1 million allowed" its not 1 million illegal immigrants via catch and release.
many of those who are catch and release claim political assylum from cuba, haiti, venezuala, etc. mainly caused by a lack of detention centers to house them, and lack of funding to deport them.
biden tried to push a 14$ billion funding package for ICE, republicans rejected it because it didnt contain wall funding (as if the wall was that cheap), and due to a lot of false narratives about how Biden wont let ICE do their job. Ice is doing their job, they're catching record numbers of illegals, detaining record numbers, deporting record numbers, capturing record numbers of drugs and contraband, etc.
for the record i dont like biden's border policy, and i do think his rhetoric has caused an influx in immigration. its just that context is important. such as the fact that afaik the "vast majority" aren't being released, but i'd be happy to read numbers on that.
