Can anyone explain why that is important?
Because one side obfuscates and lies by omission to protect blacks from being identified as criminals when speaking about specific black people who commit crimes while simultaneously doing everything they can to amplify the race of the criminal when it's white, and that's wrong. Either everyone gets racially identified, or no one is, unless you've got some sort of racial agenda. I lean toward everyone, as it is easier to identify criminals the more descriptors are available, race being one possible descriptor.
