I'm a-political and have never voted in a U.S election. Didn't vote for Obama when I was 18 and didn't vote for Trump when I was 30. (Know a con-man when you see one)

I live in Illinois near Chicago so I know everything about how Democrats destroy cities and pray on the weak and uninformed. I can't even go to the block I grew up on unless I'm strapped. Thank the democrats for that one.

Illinois has been blue since honest Abe so going and voting Republican for prez is a waste of your time and money in Illinois.

I'm active in my cities politics because I would never want what happened to Chicago to happen to the city I've lived in my whole life.

Most of the state of Illinois is Republican and if you talk with people they'll say "Yea I voted for Biden but now I'm thinking he's even worse then Trump".

This is with all the pro-democrat commercials and brainwashing. Eventually you look around and realize you were conned into believing voting Democrat will benefit your community. Everyone in Illinois knows now that's not the case.

Voting locally is the most important part of our system. I love what you say here.

Yea I try and explain that to family and friends all the time. A lot of them complain about the system but only vote once every 4 years.

If you vote for your local mayor, sheriff, and attend town hall meetings and just speak your voice and try and get your fellow citizens to agree "within your community" not "washington" you can create a safe tight-nit community.

Proud of the fact that where I'm from "Homer Glen, Illinois" is often voted top 5 safest in the state, best education system, lowest crime rate, and a real sense of community. We're 30 minutes SW of Chicago which has some of the worst crime rates, terrible educational foundations, and just gang land + homeless vibes.

When I drive from my house to the city it's like going from "total safety and openness" to a "warzone" where you better not look at someone the wrong way or you'll get robbed/shot...

I think he's slowly changing his facial color to claim he's a descendent of a chimpanzee, and not an orangutan, so he can revive the orangutan lawsuit vs Bill Maher

in the current GOP the only non-Trump candidate that has a chance is a Trump clone.

it's not going to die until we have a few cycles of Romney-esque candidates.

No, it's not going to go away until a non-trumpy Republican wins a general election AND delivers on key priorities of maga voters. The reason Trump was able to pull off a hostile takeover of the Republican party in 2016 and still enjoys such loyal support is that a critical mass of GOP voters were disillusioned by the Republican establishment. For decades, party elites had used the grassroots energy of voters who cared about abortion, guns or immigration and translated it into Wall Street tax cuts and endless shitty wars while yielding on social and cultural issues. In 2016, this tactic had reached a breaking point and I don't see any way back, no matter how much the Bushes, Romneys and Cheneys of the world might want it.

How many presidencies can the MAGA crowd rule the party without delivering on midwest, rust belt and bible belt economic growth? that's what won it for Trump. people in communities torn apart by outsourcing and automation that were told jobs would return. maybe excuses will last a bit, but they wont forever.

that said u didnt really respond to my post, i said TDS would last until the romney wing retakes the party, i didnt say it would happen, let alone soon. void's post presumed post trump TDS would die out.

But that's the thing: the economy was pretty great from 2017 through early 2020, those were the years when the largest real wage gains were made post-2010, particularly for the lower percentiles of the income distribution and in less economically strong regions of the country. We can debate about the degree to which Trump contributed to this, as opposed to him just getting lucky with the timing of the economic recovery from the Great Recession (which reached MAGA country last), but the takeaway is that a lot of his base feel like he delivered for them on the economy... until a conglomerate of Democrats, technocrats, journalists and elites intentionally and needlessly fucked it all up with the covid lockdowns.

So the way I see it, Trump and his brand of populism have already earned quite some credit with his base on economic policy, hence, it would take a long streak of stagnation/decline before they turn on trumpism for economic reasons.

Ok, I misinterpreted you then and we actually agree on this point.
