The electoral college is a simple example of representative democracy, where the electoral voters are the representatives who are voted in by the people

Shortsighted, you think the govt depts will accept less funding? they'll claim AI takes MORE money with LESS people. govt depts dont get funding reduced.

Sure they do. Pretty well every time there's an election and priorities shift, at least a few departments get reduced funding. Especially in a bipolar environment like the US where a new president/congress/house is frequently to almost always from the opposite party as the previous. Democrats care about some things Republicans don't and vice versa. There will be some that both parties support and those departments probably rarely if ever see reduced funding, but there are many that are more controversial and can even be completely shut down.
