He can't start raising interest rates without completely losing his face. For years, he has publicly backed the insane idea that cutting interest rates would decrease inflation (sic!) and fired multiple governors of the Central Bank of Turkey who dared to tell him otherwise. Presumably he subscribes to this theory because he's a simpleton and saw rate cuts coincide with decreasing inflation during the Eurozone debt crisis of the early 2010s...

Nah, that's a pretty neutral assessment of the situation.

I have basically no personal investment in Turkey, but it has basically been a textbook example of how not to manage a countries finances so it's been a fun watch the last few years.

I'm not Turkish / no family there ;)

It's an interesting situation because "progressive" MSM have been shitting on Erdogan for a long time while at the same time Turkey is a very important NATO ally and the West needs to keep Turkey on their side.

When leaders shit on him, Erdogan is that guy to stand up and say F you. Did you notice what I posted, "progressive" world leaders congratulating Erdogan on his win?
