A strong economy does wonders for a President's approval ratings.

But historically speaking, and given how healthy the economy is right now, his approval rating should be higher.

He creates too many self-inflicted controversies and is way too divisive of a President to probably ever climb above that 50-55% approval mark.

That said, his floor is also high due to unwavering support among Republicans. I imagine he will stay in this 40-50% range for most of presidency, unless the economy tanks.
