A new update: There are now open investigations by the FBI, ICE and Department of Education into the length list of felonies committed by Ilhan Omar.
We already knew they held a formal meeting last October to discuss the evidence, but today we learned that the evidence was passed onto ICE and the DoED to pursue. Since they won't comment on active investigations its obviously hard to confirm how they're being handled, but David Steinberg assembled the evidence and he was invited to the meeting (which he declined- but its how we know about the meeting).

So yup, the "walls are closing in" on Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, at the most glacial pace that its literally comparable to the rate of the disappearance of glaciers from glacier national park in living memory, so that's not even hyperbole.
But hey, at least we can confirm that the feds are looking at Ilhan Omar at a minimum. It could amount to nothing, they could give her a free pass, it could drag out for years, or they could be drafting an arrest warrant to spring on her any day now.

The thing is: in Trump's America, any action by the Feds against Omar will have huge political ramifications. If I had to guess, I'd say that the Feds have a strong incentive to drag the process out as long as possible. My assumption is that their priority is staying out of the partisan firestorm which actual law enforcement action against Omar would spark.

Political ramifications only go as far as your party is willing to hold onto you instead of cutting their losses. There is no love lost for Ilhan Omar and its absolutely amazing to me she's lasted this long, I guess democrats can't afford to throw her under the bus without something actionable, even all the anti-semitism scandals weren't enough. I don't think there's a world where she has enough support unified behind her that she isn't expendable. So I fully expect that if the scandals ever did finally break and she got arrested and the MSM forced to cover it (despite it all being public knowledge for years now), Pelosi would be the first one to plant a knife in her back. She's been a thorn in the establishment's side anyway.

The problem I see with this is that the mainstream media has given Omar too much positive coverage and been too invested in protecting her against criticism. I dont think they can just drop her without losing face. Also, Trump has been targetting Omar a lot, and this would basically be a big fat concession that "Trump was right all along". Which I dont think the Democrats and their allies within the media are willing to give. Not in an election year.

My assumption therefore still is that they will drag the process out until after election day, and then dump her as quickly as possible, so that her case is forgotten by Nov 2022.

Al Franken was thrown into a meat grinder. Bigger names have been cast aside rudely, Ilhan might have more positive coverage from the media but she's also been such a lightning rod and a perpetual liability that establishment dems should have every reason to just take a lump or to and cast her out at a moment's notice. But good god is it taking forever for that moment to come. Even if all the FBI wanted to nail her on was the most factually provable crimes, the ones with no degree of doubt whatsoever, they could still get her on perjury and tax fraud any day they want. Let alone the actual meat of the story.

Al Franken was an old white man at a time when the zeitgeist was #metoo, whereas Ilhan Omar is a black muslim woman. In the aftermath of 2016, liberal circles (hollywood, academia, msm) interpreted Trump's election as a backlash by old white men against the country's increasing diversity and progressivism. And these liberal circles largely chose to ostentatiously double down on those liberal identity politics which they saw Trump running against. In their symbolic "war" against Trump and everything he stands for, Al Franken was a pawn they were all too willing to sacrifice, while Omar - at least symbolically - is the 'queen piece', and sacrificing it would really sting.

So what this boils down to, in my opinion, is a conflict of interest between Omar being a liability for Democrats and liberals, and her getting taken down being a huge symbolic triumph for 'trumpism'. Rationally, they would love to get rid of her, but doing so isnt possible without giving Trump a big 'win'.

Interesting, I've only heard negative coverage and it's because she's an anti-Semite.

She's MSM's poster child.

It's unfortunate that as a relentless perpetrator of seemingly innumerable felonies, she's going to give immigrants a bad name.

i dont think her being a "poster child" is correct, at all.

sure she does get the nod on a few "slams" against trump. but she also has msm publications writing about her brother/love scandal, her characterization of 9-11, her immigrant status being called into question, and her constant shilling for Palestine. the last of which even if they wrote "neutrally" has a negative reaction from most US citizens, support for only Palestine isnt exactly a wildly popular opinion.

she's for sure been treated with kid gloves on many of her scandals, but the scandals are printed none the less.

AOC fits that bill far better, negative stories buried while she's written about like a messiah. green new deal didnt get slammed, etc.
