the question whether voters will see trump as a figure who's credible in his support of and respect for the troops is different from the question whether they will side with the troops/patriotism or with minority millionaires who tell them to "check their privilege".

those nba, nfl, mlb, nhl players work hard, sure, but most people do. the reason why they are millionaires is that they got lucky in the genetic lottery and grew up to be freakishly tall (nba) or absurdly sturdy (nfl). and those non-white millionaires who turned their genetic luck into money are now telling their white working class viewers, who often times had to work 30 hours or more at minimum wage to afford coming to the stadium, about how privileged they are for being white and that skin color is they main divide in america, not rich_vs_poor.

It'd be more accurate to say "side with troops/patriotism or minorities oppressed by our government". But really it's a false dichotomy. I'm not a triggered white person so I can respect an NFL player kneeling in protest of racial injustice, even though I think they should stand.

And the Trump point is a fair one. He's fine with disrespecting the service of someone if they disagree with him politically. He's a white trash billionaire.

And protest against injustice coming from the wrong messenger doesnt make the recipient a victim, but it invalidates the messege. It just doesnt work when the powerful superstar millionaire is lecturing the poor small-joe in the crowd about his supposed privilege.
