Hmm, I may have overestimated the timeframe of such a probe. If this is true, the math would obviously change. But on the other hand, I have this feeling that the Dems, and Avenatti in particular, would also find ways to obstruct and delay the FBI investigation itself.
Once it's started, the WH, for political reasons, cannot just stop it a few days later saying "sorry, this is taking too long for our political calculus, our patience is up, this thing ends right now even though the investigation is not finished."

The most recent example is probably when Roberts defected the conservative bench and cast the decisive vote to uphold obamacare. Many pundits said that he "sacrificed" himself to protect the integrity and the political neutrality of the court, since repealing or continuing obamacare is ultimately a political decision and not one for the courts to decide. So it's not just me, the Chief Justice himself seemed see the court's reputation in danger not too long ago.

This is why I think the SC isn't as fragile as you seem to think. The SC itself will protect it's own existence.

Think about it, the majority of america leans left.
Republicans held off democrats from filling the empty seat for a year..
If they suddenly fill it now and the supreme court starts overturning things like roe v wade antifa will seem like a cool breeze, you will see near civil war.
