It was a serious point that people raised and theres good reason to beleive that asbestos firecladding is so much more effective than the replacements that it could have either given enough time to put out the fires somehow to avert the 911 collapses and saved thousands of lives, or at least delayed it for hours or days and allowed evacuation of some more people. The facts are, asbestos is crazy effective at stopping fire damage to internal structure, and the 911 collapse was caused by fire damage to internal structure not shock waves or impact damage, and the anti asbestos movement lead to its total removal even on internal structural elements that werent any health risk from air exposure.

Now, would asbestos have saved the towers from collapse? Probably not. Even if its more effective fireproofing, its not magic. And it would not have contained the fire from spreading due to the gaping impact hole, the floors werent isolated anyway. Enough shit would have melted to collapse eventually. But could 911 have played out differently if firefighters had days?
