Cloth masks are ineffective. You need a well-fitted respirator, such as the n95, to suction to your face in hopes of possibly reducing the intake or spread of viruses through respiratory passages. What nobody truly recognizes is that if you're going to "protect" yourself, you'll need goggles that are fiction fitted, n95, face shield, gloves, and even in the most extremes, a full body suit that's self-ventilated.
sorry to cut your quote short but I've tried this argument with people who are for face masks and they look at me like my head is screwed on backwards. These people really believe a crappy fabric mask is protecting them.
I use to work construction and OSHA would sometimes appear on the site, one of the things they checked was face masks for workers who did jobs involving particles in the air. The worker couldn't have a beard because the mask would not make a seal on their face and thus particles could enter in these gaps.
Another example, I was sanding my bathroom, prepping the walls to paint. as an experiment I tried one of those face masks everyone wears. I had so much dust in my nose and mouth it did absolutely nothing for me. I switched to a proper respirator after wiping my face, nose, eyes and mouth down clean. No particles with the respirator on entered my lugs as far as I could tell.
good post Rainbolt, I just felt like sharing.
