I don't follow him, nor did I bother to search for his rant prior to my response. My mistake. Was under the impression he was arguing something else.

To his credit (and I don't believe he deserves benefit of doubt), most things relating him do get overblown to the point of absurdity - probably what he was alluring to. However, this is in fact standard procedure and I don't think there was anything else to think off it other than what it is.
