You understand correct but never did Russia say they gonna nuke or use chem. weapons for little Ukraine invasion. They even came with 200000 soldiers vs 600000 soldiers just because their Russians who live in Ukraine were treated badly by Ukrainians. So far they showed insane skills in getting their main goals done. Goal 1 destroying military main points Goal 2 kick the Nazis butts so their Russians can live in peace there. Nowhere did Putin say he planned to Nuke Washington but said Nato should not intervene or else they will take such options into consideration. Russia stands behind their President and so does America behind Biden. Do not believe everything you see on the media or internet even my words could be wrong. Think!!! Do not believe like a sheep. Think!!!

here is what I see:
1) the same old story from putin and his propaganda machine, just a different country -> what they feed you russians with is basically - free the "oppressed" minority, make some referendum with russians being imported into the area of interest of russia to justify this scam. We saw this in Osetia, we saw this Chechenia we see the same lame story in Donbas.
2) he needs some imaginary enemy to justify his sick vision of a world - don't make me laugh "nazis"? I guess the theater in Mariupol was packed with your imaginary nazis? 300 killed civilians - orders came from the very top. there is no hope for your nation.
3) russia's oil contracts in Ukraine and Poland are about to end this year, the only argument russia had is the argument of power, and a very narrow time window to use this power: russia's demographical situation is catastrophic - only now you have enough young men for cannon-meat before the older generation of military will be too old to pass on their knowledge
4) luckily the russian army is soaked with alcoholism and corruption selling of fuel from their tanks to get wasted and selling of crucial elements of their vecicles like optics from tanks for profit -> they will never ever succeed, their morale is crap in comparison to the Ukrainians defending their homeland
5) the constant flow of modern arms to Ukraine will make russia bleed out their + combined with the sanctions -> this was a very stupid move to be made by russia

Good points though I do not belong to any nation in conflict. I can say you have the complete opposite view which is not bad but needed in times of conflict. That civillians are dying in battle because they get used as shields is known in history over and over again and sometimes even unjustly but tell me which war in the past 50 years had no civillan casualities. Again thanks for your input and thoughts.
