Bold - Trump openly admitted this. He bragged during the 2016 campaign that he had Hillary at his beck and call.
Trump is corrupt in his own way, let's call it the sewer, but he's not in the swamp, that's reserved for Washington insiders.
The objective of a businessman is to make profit by any legal means necessary. If profits are increased by greasing the hands of one, two, or all political parties, that's what you do.
The objective of a public servant is to serve the people. Removing the ability of the public servant to make policies and provide contracts based on having their palms greased would make politics honest and more inline with actual public service.
Trump bragged that he did this and that he'd greased all the New York elite as well as the Clintons and Bushes because it was true, he did, and he did receive special treatment more than once. It's not corrupt for the businessman to do it, it's legal therefore standard business. It's corrupt when the civil servant does it, as they are supposed to serve at the behest of the taxpayer, not the businessman that's making them wealthy.
Now, did anyone ever believe Trump would actuate any change whatsoever that would alter the nature of crony politics? Only if they were stupid or so idealistic that the average 10 year old would have laughed them out of the room.
Edit: One of the comparable claims of the Democratic (and even socialist) platforms has for years been, "We'll work to get Citizen's United overturned!" No they won't. The overwhelming majority of Democratic Campaign cash and socialist platform cash has come from pacs and superpacs as well as government unions. They'd lose the majority of their funding.
