Trump was a billionaire donating money to swamp demons before he ran for president.

You're dumb as hell if you think Trump wasn't the swamp before he got into politics. A billionaire paying politicians in donations to attend his wedding and get favorable legislation is the definition of the swamp. Then he filled his cabinet with swamp creatures, sold arms across the world, and increased the drone campaign 4 fold while you guys sucked him off for bucking the political establishment.

Bold - Trump openly admitted this. He bragged during the 2016 campaign that he had Hillary at his beck and call.

Trump is corrupt in his own way, let's call it the sewer, but he's not in the swamp, that's reserved for Washington insiders.

The objective of a businessman is to make profit by any legal means necessary. If profits are increased by greasing the hands of one, two, or all political parties, that's what you do.

The objective of a public servant is to serve the people. Removing the ability of the public servant to make policies and provide contracts based on having their palms greased would make politics honest and more inline with actual public service.

Trump bragged that he did this and that he'd greased all the New York elite as well as the Clintons and Bushes because it was true, he did, and he did receive special treatment more than once. It's not corrupt for the businessman to do it, it's legal therefore standard business. It's corrupt when the civil servant does it, as they are supposed to serve at the behest of the taxpayer, not the businessman that's making them wealthy.

Now, did anyone ever believe Trump would actuate any change whatsoever that would alter the nature of crony politics? Only if they were stupid or so idealistic that the average 10 year old would have laughed them out of the room.

Edit: One of the comparable claims of the Democratic (and even socialist) platforms has for years been, "We'll work to get Citizen's United overturned!" No they won't. The overwhelming majority of Democratic Campaign cash and socialist platform cash has come from pacs and superpacs as well as government unions. They'd lose the majority of their funding.

A difference without a distinction, as evidenced by the fact that Trump himself never made the distinction and actively called the donor class part of the swamp.

Aren't they? The revolving door policy between the media, corporate boards, and executive branch seems pretty self-explanatory. Go from government to media to corporate board to government and back again. Just take a look at Biden's current cabinet list, and consider where those who served under Bush and Obama ended up. Happens as well with Senate and Representatives, just not with the frequency, as many in Congress are invisible on the National Stage.

In this case, we'll have to agree to disagree. Trump's "refusal to sign" the bill is meaningless. It passed with a veto-proof majority. It's done.

Meaning all the extra for a $2000 stimulus (or any compromised amount on top of the guaranteed $600 in the bill) will be added to the budget. So if even 100 million payments of $2000 are sent out, that'll add up to an extra $200 billion added to the top of what's already in the relief/appropriations package that was passed.

We're talking about spending more, not switching who it's going to.

You’re wrong.

If he actually vetos the bill then you’re right and it is meaningless. That isnt his only option though, he has ten days so to sign once it hits his desk and Congress will shut down before his ten days are up. If he just sits on it for ten days and refuses to sign then we are fucked and can expect no relief until Biden takes office.
