I only used an ad hom because of your comment on mental illness. Also it's on a false premise. The majority of those who received benefits from the Department of Education were not the mentally ill but the physically disabled. You are a veteran I assume? You must have some empathy for the physically disabled. They were helping children in wheelchairs and other mobility related disabilities with a lot of these fundings.
I was talking about school districts enshrining fringe LGBTQ+ ideology as policy dictating bathrooms, locker rooms etc and some of the insanity that follow ed with parents being demonized by schools and last admins government.
As for DE, tear it down. I have no empathy for it. US has seen a 600% rise in the four day school week because of budget shortfalls at local level while this FED agencies budget has ballooned (since 90s). Disproportionately in rural US. This means these schools don't have free breakfast or lunch, no free special needs services in the fifth day. Poor locals subsidize care on fifth day. Proficiency scores behind other districts.
If the DE oversaw some kind of equitable education apparatus, then I'd be singing another tune. I'm not even expecting high efficiency, but 5 to 4 day weeks downshift trend across all US is pathetic failure.
