Idk of thats true in terms of teachers being underpaid. A lot of teachers Ive seen make between 70-90k annually, but, I know they don’t make that much in my state. I know grade school teachers barely make much, but their education requirements are pretty low.
Im guessing its more like teachers should make more money if they have good test scores and other things for their students ino, sort of like a bonus or commission. I bet thatd help
Even if a Teacher makes 70-90k(non existent outside of Administration in a 2A district normally. Most of ours make 30-50k depending on experience.) They also have expenses well past “acceptable”. Keep in mind a states average Teacher salary is highly affected by the states cost of living and minimum wage. Texas will never pay as much as say California.
For instance our Teachers get a $250 per school year stipend for supplies and other educational materials needed but on Average most spend 10k on such things dipping WAY into their pay.
Our teachers are also required to participate in so many school proceedings outside of academic things each year. This increases cost for travel and food expenses.
Lastly most teachers work way more than 8 hour days but are salary. Now, most people think “But they get paid and don’t work all summer.” But that’s not exactly how it works. Their summer “pay” is technically money the School District held out of their regular pay during the School year so that the salary “evens out” all year. Teachers can opt out of this and just not get paid during the summer if they want.
