So anyway I listened to Biden's speech and I'll say about 60% of it was fluff and 40% was trying to champion his policies. In his whole term, he has never sounded more like a politician than he did today. He gave a great speech, delivered it reasonably well, hit all his stump lines and talking points, made a bunch of flowery aphorisms about democracy and then never answered the one fucking question he was up there to talk about. So yeah he didn't give any answer at all to why he's withdrawing, don't give me bullshit about "for democracy", the only context that's an appropriate answer is if you're LARPing Helldivers II.
The fact he's alive and able to appear in person is enough to say its not so acute a health issue he can't physically carry out his role as president, and the fact he just spent 6 days vanished off the face of the earth and missed scheduled events- and had the whole party apparatus insisting he would serve 4 more years- is enough to say it wasn't planned and choreographed handoff.
I think there's really only one reasonable conclusion. This is just nothing more than a desperate DNC gambit. They saw he was getting wrecked in polling and signs it would only get worse, and he was forced to accede to this by the party. They were willing to short circuit the primaries and upset the whole established idea of how our national democracy is supposed to work just to roll the dice against Trump. And there's no doubt they are introducing chaos into the system so if they were in a losing position at least it could benefit them. However, Kamala is still absurdly heavily disfavored by conventional metrics. Early polling has her down by as much as double digits in every swing state except maybe Wisconsin, even worse than Joe.
This presents us with two paths for the future. Either Kamala Harris loses and the DNC looks like a clown fiesta and we're left wondering how our democracy can survive the democrats throwing out the results of elections and trying every dirty trick to grasp at power- or Kamala Harris wins and its probably the result of actual vote rigging.
I can't wait for the "if the democrats lose we will accept the loss unlike trump" supercuts with curb music when they dive right back into conspiracies about how trump could win and long diatribes about how if we just defeated racism and sexism trump wouldnt stand a chance. zero mental math on how hard the actual middle of the country is sitting and how that could possibly cause them to vote for someone that knows they exist outside of pork futures and BLM riots.
