Reuters then cites an anonymous source- an unnamed 'official' of a completely unknown nature, without any details as to whether he'd be in a position to actually know anything of Mueller's probe or not- who speculatively calls Giuliani's claim 'entirely made up' as an 'apparent effort to pressure the special counsel'. The other MSM sites then quote this unnamed official to authoritatively state that Giuliani's claim was false.
Was Rudy right or wrong? We have no way to know. But the MSM first reports his words skeptically, then reports a completely unaccountable anonymous source with no credibility whatsoever in order to contradict him.

trump being outraged that a veteran spy was planted in his campaign, a guy who has a decade-long history of tampering with campaigns on behalf of the intelligence community for political purposes, can hardly be called "uncalled for" or "an attack on our democratic institutions".
