yeah the EU did something after many years, the whole thing goes to court, which will take even more years until you and i have forgotten it all and we will probably never hear of it again

proper action would be to force them to pay a fair amount of taxes immediately or their products will be banned completely

the EU is a giant entity of corporate puppets and as we all know the bird does not take a dump in its own nest (german saying)

and africa.....these people have no clue how to even build a society or what the concept of taxes even means

Apple paid, ~€15 bn, Google recently paid €20bn (a record high) for unfair advertisement priority. It was the second time they've been fined and it doesn't seem to be the last time, as Google continues the practice. I guess the profits are higher than the fine ;)
The internet explorer lawsuit was ~ 15 years ago, just to show that the EU has been fighting unfair competition and monopolies for quite some time now.

The corporate puppets you mention, are in the local governments. Racing down the corporate tax to the bottom, at the costs of small businesses and citizens. Not just here, but more or less worldwide, large corporations are getting an increasing share in the world economy and are dwarfing economies like Ireland.
I don't really want to go into your racist attack on African citizens. But I'll remind you that Starbucks in doing the same type of evasion within the EU as Heineken does in Africa. Minimizing profits in countries through international constructions, is something we need to get a better grip on, but that cannot be done on a national level.

The statement that the EU is run by corporate puppets, seems to be backward fart wing logic. Almost seems like we do need to ban memes.

you got sources for the 20 billion? in german sources its a 4,3 billion fine that google has to pay and another 2,4 billion from 2017
thats 5% (the 4,3 bn, the other fine is 3% of their 2016 revenue) of their 2017 revenue and the EU commission can go up to 10%, that would mean 20 billion arent even possible according to what i can find

obviously google is appealing against that and the whole thing will go to court, which will take years

so in other words, google has not paid shit, you make it sound like europe has collected the money already
unfortunately this is not correct

in 2012 intel was sentenced to pay 1,06 billion and the sentence was overturned in 2016
so much for that
europe isnt getting a penny for years to come (if at all)

aside from that its more like small and middle class corporation are suffering from very high taxes, at least in places like germany or france, while the global players avoid them with cheap tricks
we need lower taxes that are actually enforced (that might even get big corporations to stop evasion) and thats where the job of the national state begins
enforce taxation, where products are getting sold and stop the flow of profit to some oversea tax haven or they are getting banned

dont expect anything from the EU in that regard and i oppose the centralisation, that you seem to be so fond of
the EU just wants to have all that money go to brussels, i say it belongs where the profit is made

locals are not to blame, they are the victims of eu lobbyism not to mention that we are only talking about corporations from outside of europe
the EU is doing a terrific job at keeping food prices artificially high for their corporate masters here in europe with tariffs and regulations, to name one example

its completely impossible nowadays to talk about the failed and backward states/societies in africa without some ridiculous racism accusation
you just need to pay off the corrupt government, warlord, whatever in that area and you can do business there
the whole system and understanding that we have does not even exist

p.s: not everything you dont agree with is fart right or racist you know, just for your information

If China becomes the new superpower, it seems they will take more after Russia than the USA:

https://amp.businessinsider.com/china-swedens-bizarre-feud-tourists-claim-brutal-murder-attempt-2018-9

Quote
Chinese tourists visiting a Swedish hostel in Stockholm sparked an international incident when they appeared on video screaming and crying and accusing local police of trying to murder them.

The incident took place early in September, and has brought repeated Chinese demands for Sweden to investigate potential mistreatment of the tourists, which Sweden has refused outright.

The Chinese family, with the surname of Zeng, arrived at the hostel in Sweden one day before their check in time and asked to stay in the lobby. The Zengs say they were just a few hours earlier, but local media reports they may have arrived as many as 15 hours prior to their booking.

One local blog, InBeijing.se pointed out that the hostel's lobby has a restaurant where the Zengs could have stayed indefinitely if they just bought a coffee.

Instead, the hostel eventually called police to have the Zengs removed, at which point they threw a fit.

Video of the event, taken both by the Zengs and bystanders show the youngest Zeng throwing himself on the ground and screaming and crying. The mother also screams and cries while the father lays motionless on the ground. Other angles of the video show the father completely limp as Swedish police carry him out of the hostel.

While the police carry the limp elder Zeng, the younger Zeng screams: "This is a killing!"

A bystander who filmed the event told Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet that the "police did not look bad at all. They tried to calm down the situation, but these Chinese just gaped and screamed."

But the Global Times, a nationalistic Chinese state-run newspaper, quoted Zeng as saying additional armed police arrived and detained and beat the elder parents. Later, Chinese Ambassador to Sweden Gui Congyou gave an interview posted by Beijing's embassy in Stockholm calling the treatment "brutal."

Gui said numerous times that the tourists were treated in a "brutal" way without providing any evidence. Gui repeats what appears to have been a misunderstanding by the Zengs, who said they were dropped off in a graveyard. Swedish police say they were dropped off at a nearby train station named "Skogskyrkogården," which translates to "Woodland Cemetery," named after a local site that historically served as a cemetery.

The Chinese embassy called on Sweden multiple times to investigate the alleged wrongdoing, but Swedish prosecutor Mats Ericsson told the Aftonbladet that "we made the assessment that no crime on the part of the police had been committed."

Later, InBeijing pointed out that the Zengs left Sweden and appeared to be in good spirits, making posts with pictures of them goofing off on a bridge elsewhere in Europe.

Chinese citizens who followed the drama on Chinese social media responded with a mix of sympathy and embarrassment.

"I really find these types of people too infuriating. Could they please not make a spectacle of themselves and give the motherland some face?" one user wrote.

A Swedish government source told Reuters that they believe China has overreacted to the incident because Sweden recently protested its citizen being held in China. "We think it's related to Gui Minhai," the source said, referring to a Swedish bookseller in Hong Kong abducted in Thailand and locked up since 2015.

"Sweden and the EU have repeatedly called for his release and Chinese authorities don't like that."

China's ruling Communist party controls virtually every aspect of life for Chinese citizens. China frequently jails Hong Kong booksellers who offer books critical of the government. China has sparked UN scrutiny over its re-education camps that allegedly force the country's Muslim minority to not observe their religion.

When pressed by the UN on the human rights overreaches, Li Xiaojun, director for publicity at the Bureau of Human Rights Affairs of China's State Council Information Office cited terror attacks in Paris and Belgium by Muslim extremists as evidence that forced re-education was the right way to go.

China stands accused of weaponizing tourism as it seeks to make massive investments as part of its troubled Belt and Road initiative.

Well any folk in the EU who have realized that "something is rotten in Denmark", are welcome in the US.
I mean we're only half insane over here.

/ee On a side note... if I was the UK I would take a no deal Brexit as fast as possible. At least that way, "merry old England" will be saved.

When I said "any folk in the EU" I mean those that DON'T think raping a handicapped girl is OK.
I definitely don't mean the influx of immigrants, that seem to be destroying Europe

/e I don't know how things look from inside the EU, but from over here, it looks like the EU is falling apart. I for one would not want to lose the Europe that is the basis for the US.

Ow, my memory made it 5 times higher. nice tnx. Yes this one has not been paid yet, and might not be paid at all. Doesn't matter for the argument that the EU is pushing multinationals to pay taxes and restrict misuse of a near monopoly position. This is one case out of many.

and thats where the job of the national state begins, enforce taxation, where products are getting sold and stop the flow of profit to some oversea tax haven or they are getting banned

And that's where you're missing my point, where corporations are making deals with states, where the influence of a state ends at the border, You'd have corporations making most of the profits on countries with the least taxation, pushing our countries to a race to the bottom on corp taxes.
Seem like you want to pay €2,- per megabyte of data when in you're in Barcelona enjoying the sun. Or take Air transport for instance, we can't charge tax on kerosene (0% tax atm) due to the same problem.. Let's say Germany enforces tax on consuming Kerosene, then airliners will avoid landing in Germany. Making a single country powerless to tax the polluter there.

The rest of your post was about not trusting the EU and Brussels.. fair enough, it's not perfect, But I don't wanna go into your gut feelings there.

As for Africa and failed states:

As a general rule of thumb: wealthy countries are very nice to live in, to be born in. Life is good.. In countries with less wealth, life is more shitty, countries do worse. You can call them failed states, but it's mainly a lack of funds.
You have somewhat of a systematic hatred towards poor countries and the citizens within them. Which I find a bit awkward as I can't imagine fishermen to be very rich.
