Japans key weakness was being terrified of russia. So when germeny invades russia, japan actually DOESNT HELP. Japan should have attacked the eastern border of russia. Together they would have toppled Russia. Instead, Japan starts a war with the US by stupidly bombing Pearl Harbor.
In hindsight, Germany needed to respect Japans great fear of Russia and let Japan take the lead. If Japan wanted a war with the US, then never invade Russia and both Japan and Germany should have tag teamed to take out the US instead.
Hindsight is 20/20
We weren't totally neutral leading up to this though and there's no guarantee we would have stayed out even if we weren't directly attacked.
tbh i dont know if japan + germany would have been able to defeat the US. the more likely outcome would probably have been a stalemate where germany/japan control europe/east asia while the US controls the americas. and with nukes being on the verge of being ready for mass production, who knows how things would have gone from that point onward.
in hindsight, it was good that the war ended before both sides had nukes.
