The funny thing is (besides the last panel) is that how life works. Progressives have some good and some bad ideas, the good ones move politics to the left, so if you never adapt you become more and more of an extremist right winger. E.g. if your views on people of different colors are inspired by politics from a century you ago you are a racist and if your view on gay people are 50 years old you are a bigot. So yes, if you lack critical thinking skills to reevaluate your positions from time to time the political center will move to the left from your perspective and you will end up the racist/sexist uncle everybody hates and belittles.

Because historically, social trends of decadence, debauchery and radicalism have existed in numerous societies that swung to repressive, puritanical and regressive.
A time when orgies were normalized in Rome, a time when Iranian women wore bikinis. A time when Hollywood couldn't show too much ankle.
But sure if you look at an 80 year slice of American history you'd think societies always moves to the left and its inevitable progress. Just ignore the 2500 years of world history before it

Funny that you bring that up, the dark ages where such a backswing and probably the worst time in human history, not by coincidence. I also somehow suspect even the most conservative of the jsp MAGA crowd can agree that Iran took a wrong turn in the 70/80s but what do I know.

Iran didn't take a wrong turn, Iran took a predictable and inevitable turn. Puritanical twelver shias represented a majority demographic, the CIA-backed regime didn't.

The American progressive movement is totally out of step with the views of the vast majority of Americans, and is coupled with an effort to replace the majority white populace with growing immigrant demographics, drawn from people who are even more religious and regressive than the whites. The upside of being a functional democracy is that the pressures in this system are relieved when the people's representation actually follows their views, instead of building up to an explosion. So it can swing back instead of bursting apart. And its really the cherry on top when muslim parents get Donald Trump elected by protesting against transgender ideology being forced on their kids in public schools.

It just so happens that one major political party tries to bank on this demographic shift

Voting demographics change and can change quickly. I’m not gonna pretend that some democrats aren’t currently happy with the demographics shift. But it actually hasn’t helped dems. In fact the shift in the Latino vote this last election cycle undeniably helped R’s.

Generally speaking politicians aren’t long term thinkers… they have one goal and that’s to protect themselves for the next election. I think the idea that one party is trying to manufacture a demographics change over the course of 40+ years hoping that voting patterns don’t change and it helps the party in their children’s lifetime is not reality.
