The flag was a misdirect all along, NFL protests were about police brutality, not the military or the flag or even the anthem itself. No more than sit ins at restaurants were a protest of the food the restaurant served.

People aren't principled, and lie about their justifications to fit an acceptable thing that many people can get on board with. Its a web of lies made to make people seem more reasonable when they'ye actually just being tribal idiots.

iirc trump received far more support from black people than "experts" predicted before the election

Trump did better with minorities than Romney did in 2012. It's an inconvenient statistic for liberals, who think that all minorities interpret Trump's "insensitive" comments as racist.

Trump got 8% of the black vote, compared to Romney's 6%. but the black turnout went down overall. not surprising he got more since he wasnt up against a black man, and not surprising turnout went down since neither were black.

His 29% of the Hispanic vote is more surprising, the black vote part seems fairly benign. I dont think many experts counted on him outmatching Romney on the Hispanic vote.
