The majority of people losing trust in the impartiality of the system would be an unambiguously good thing. It has historically been used as a conservative arm of the government to oppress various groups, including maliciously prosecuting and spying on environmentalists and protestors.

This is not "federal law enforcement losing impartiality". This is the public recognizing the pre-existent lack of impartiality. Get it right.

Morally speaking, you are right. Politically speaking, it makes a hell of a difference if law enforcement is perceived as going after fringe groups like environmentalists or protestors, or if they are perceived as going after Republicans/favoring Democrats. (Or vice versa.) If institutions, particularly ones as powerful as law enforcement and the justice system, get infested by partisanship, democratic backsliding is inevitable.

Let's be perfectly clear here. Trump is in the wrong here and should be prosecuted. He should go to jail over this. This is not an example of the justice system being used in an impartial manner to hunt conservatives. He was given over a year of leeway and only had threats of charges (has there even been charges brought up as a possibility by the DOJ yet?) come out AFTER he actively obstructed them and lied and then blabbed about it to the public. If anybody else had done this they would be facing far far far worse consequences. If you want to harp on how the justice system isn't impartial, this aint it chief. This is a clear example of them doing their job while giving Trump every opportunity for over a year and bending over backwards to accomodate him.

There is absolutely zero argument to be made here that they are impartially going after Trump. The ONLY way you can argue this is bad is because the public might be goaded by Trump into losing trust in the system even though he very much deserves it. Which is stupid. You can make that argument about literally anything. "You can't do anything because Trump might convince people that it's a witchhunt".

Prosecuting a former president and likely future presidential nominee for process crimes would definitely be a large escalation, no matter if Trump was behaving like an idiot and technically deserves it. You also seem to have missed the past 6 years when the upper echelons of the FBI, and the intelligence community at large, were in more or less open revolt against Trump and tried to undermine his presidency every step of the way. Trump was and still is a shady figure who did lots of shady things and deserved scrutiny - and at the same time, he was indeed unfairly treated throughout much of his presidency, the swamp was indeed out to get him. Both these things are true at the same, that's not a contradiction.

You are being dishonest. This is not a process crime. A process crime would be him handing over documents when asked even though he technically was breaking the law by having them.

HE ACTIVELY UNDERMINED THEIR EFFORTS TO RETRIEVE THE DOCUMENTS and they gave him over a year to comply and tried to keep it secret and executed the warrant to minimize inconvenient to Trump. So no, it is not an escalation.

You are just minimizing when it comes to Trump and maximizing anything related to Biden and the FBI to the point of comedy. Because you're a partisan hack.

To be fair we don’t know exactly what is real and what is not. Look at pretty much every controversial court case in the past few years. Arbery, Rittenhouse both Trump impeachments, even chauven. The story we were given was very different from what was presented in court.

Hell they even tried pushing white supremacy on the “TASER TASER-OH SHIT I SHOT HIM” lady.

Chauvin Arbery and Rittenhouse were all exactly the same in court as what came out beforehand. You must be following some garbage news outlets because we had the first and the last literally on tape.

Also TRUMP HAS ALREADY ADMITTED TO HAVING THE DOCUMENTS AND HANDED OVER SOME OF THEM BEFOREHAND WHILE INTENTIONALLY OBSTRUCTING THE RETRIEVAL OF THE OTHERS. That's how we know he did it. His own words and actions.
